In 2001, I was working for TVA's River System Operations & Environment group as a Human Resources Consultant, and we were going through a major reorganization which involved centralizing the HR function across TVA. During this time, the IG's office posted a vacancy for a Human Resource Consultant position for which I applied and was offered the position. By accepting the position, I was given the opportunity to learn firsthand about an organization that was established to help TVA become a better agency and continue my career in human resources.
I am responsible for preparing and submitting OIG's annual budget in accordance with TVA guidelines which includes monitoring budget performance throughout the year to report to TVA. I am also responsible for administering the OIG background process, coordinating the clearance process for OIG employees, preparing and updating emergency plans as well as other administrative projects.
I enjoy the work, the people I get to work with every day, and the feeling that we are one big family. The IG and his management team know and value the importance of work life balance and have implemented programs that have made this office the best place to work in TVA.
The office is very supportive of training and the professional development of OIG employees. When I was given the task of working with the OIG budget, I was provided the tools and resources I needed to help me become successful as I was learning and developing new skills.
