Our Mission

Making TVA Better and Supporting the People of the Tennessee Valley

For over 35 years, the TVA OIG has performed a crucial mission to make TVA better by identifying more efficient and effective ways to do business and to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse. Making TVA better is a mutual purpose we share with TVA management, employees, and the TVA Board. It is important to the 10 million people of the Tennessee Valley served by TVA that we approach our work with that purpose every day.

The Tennessee Valley Authority provides electricity for the 10 million people in Tennessee and parts of six surrounding states, as well as directly to industrial customers and federal installations. TVA also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system, and assists with local economic development efforts.

The Audits and Evaluations organization performs a wide variety of assessments designed to promote positive change and provide assurance to TVA stakeholders. Based on the results of these assessments, the Audits and Evaluations organizations make recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of TVA programs and operations and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.

Special Agents & Fraud Examiners

The Investigations team uncovers fraud, waste, and abuse in TVA programs and operations. They maintain relationships with federal and state prosecutors to report violations of criminal law and partner with other investigative agencies on special projects including interagency law enforcement task forces on terrorism, the environment, healthcare, and public corruption.


Our Administrative team provides a critical role in supporting the OIG team to ensure they have the tools and resources to effectively perform their roles.
