TESTIMOMIAL

In 2015, 2016, and 2017 the TVA OIG was named one of the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government. The TVA OIG ranked 1st in 2015 and 2016 and 2nd in 2017 out of over 300 other federal agency subcomponents.

Our OIG team has worked extremely hard to create and sustain a productive work environment that is focused on making TVA better. To be rated as the number one oversight office in the federal government is a high honor for our office. I am proud of my very engaged team and the important work they perform to provide an independent perspective on TVA operations. Ultimately, our mission is to help TVA to be better and keep electricity rates low for the people of the Tennessee Valley

Opportunities for Focused Career Development and Advancement

At the TVA OIG, we are provided numerous opportunities to help us acquire the experience and education we want or need to advance our careers. We each have a coach who supports us to enhance our strengths and guides us in the improvement and development of new skills to help us achieve our career goals. Several of our positions have career ladders where employees can advance through several levels once they've attained the minimum required experience and demonstrated their ability to perform at the next level. In addition, a very generous tuition reimbursement program is available to employees who are interested in pursuing advanced degrees, and we are encouraged and receive financial support and recognition for obtaining professional certifications such as the CFE, CIA, CPA, etc. Our office provides an environment of continuous learning and education because the TVA OIG knows that its greatest assets are its employees.

Diversity of Job Assignments and Responsibilities

I think that the OIG is a great place to work because we get to experience so many different opportunities to learn about TVA. TVA's business is very diverse, so with each audit or evaluation that you are assigned, you get an opportunity to learn new things and develop new skills. In addition, we have the opportunity to learn from our peers who may be working in areas that we have yet to experience. Our assignments can involve both financial and operational aspects of the business. I have been involved in a wide variety of assignments during my time in the office, and I anticipate that there are still many more learning opportunities to explore.

Job Security/Stable Environment with Little Turnover

One of the many upsides of working at the TVA OIG is the job security. We have a stable environment with little turnover, which is a credit to our positive office culture and the many benefits we enjoy as OIG team members. When people come here to work, they want to stay. This is shown by the high number of people who have been working in our office 10 to 15 years or longer. Being able to retain employees for that length of time is a significant benefit when developing newer team members. Also, it's worth mentioning that, historically, our office has been somewhat immune to the impacts of economic downturn. As someone who went through a layoff prior to coming to the OIG, I'm thankful for the stability that we have here.

Competitive Pay and Benefits

In order to attract and keep team members with the skills and talent necessary to achieve our mission, we maintain a compensation package that ensures that our employees are paid fairly and competitively. The overall compensation package starts with competitive salary and bonus opportunities. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package with the opportunity to make health benefit selections that best meet your family's needs and a 401(k) plan with a generous match.

Feel good about the work you do and the difference it makes

My job gives me a sense of purpose and value that goes beyond bringing home a paycheck. Working at the TVA OIG provides me an opportunity to contribute my skills in research and data analysis to support our office's efforts to uncover waste, fraud and abuse and that affects TVA, the Tennessee Valley, and the people that live in the area we serve. I love knowing that when I come to work, I am bringing the truth to light and continually striving for improvements that can make life better for my coworkers and community. This allows me to have a sense of pride about my job that can only come from seeing the significance of what our office and the people that work here do.

Work/Life Balance

Work/Life balance and flexibility are two of our greatest benefits at the OIG. We are all striving to engage and be our best at work, while also maintaining a fulfilling personal life. The office recognizes that balance is different for each employee. Flexible scheduling options and opportunities to work remotely give every employee the chance to strike the perfect balance between work and home. As a mom, working in an environment that acknowledges and supports employees' search for a better work/life balance is important to me and that is one reason the OIG is a great place to work.

Positive Work Environment and Office

For me, it was an obvious choice to seize the opportunity to work at the TVA Office of the Inspector General. From the very first conversation with an employee at the OIG, I could just hear the high morale in their voice. Once I started, it became obvious that culture is a priority for OIG leadership, management, and personnel. It is reassuring to know the IG himself makes it a practice to model the behaviors he expects from all of us. By doing so, this has created a positive work environment. In my short time here, I've had the opportunity to participate in working sessions with varying levels of OIG leadership and was encouraged to express any thoughts and/or concerns, and my input was well received. It is reasons like this that makes the TVA Office of the Inspector General a great place to work!
