Promoting excellence in TVA operations is Investigation's mission. We do this by conducting investigations designed to promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness, and to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.
Investigations conducts criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving fraud, misconduct, or waste. We are staffed with Agents, whose work is supported by fraud examiners, analysts, and data specialists. OIG Investigations has offices in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and Huntsville (Alabama).
The Inspector General Act of 1978 grants administrative subpoena power to our office which aids in obtaining documents necessary to conduct a thorough investigation.
Investigations are based on a variety of sources such as TVA management concerns, internal data analytics, Special Agent initiated inquiries, and tips and concerns provided through our hotline, the EmPowerline.
The EmPowerline allows employees, contractors, and the general public to report suspected fraud, waste, and abuse. Those contacting the EmPowerline are automatically granted confidentiality as required by the Inspector General Reform Act of 2008, which requires nondisclosure of a complainant's name unless the complainant consents or the Inspector General determines that the disclosure is unavoidable during the course of an investigation.
For more information about how you can report a concern, please visit our EmPowerline website using the link below. We strongly encourage you to watch our Empowerline Process: How it Works video to gain an understanding of how the process works and what to report.
